Troubleshooting a cable node

If you’re experiencing issues with your moisture/temperature cable becoming unresponsive, don’t worry! We’re here to help you troubleshoot the problem and get your equipment back up and running smoothly. Obviously, our first call would be to your local dealer! But we understand the seasonality of these grain management start ups and sometimes they can’t get on site as quickly as you’d like. If you are able to safely access the cables, on top of and in an empty bin, follow these steps to identify and resolve the issue.

1. Inspect for Damage

Troubleshooting a cable node

If you aren’t able to get your local dealer on site quickly, you can start by visually inspecting the sensing cable, cable node, and lead wire INT2 for obvious signs of damage. If you notice damaged components, you can either purchase replacements from your local OPI dealer or reach out to them for warranty replacements. Send them photos of the part in question so you and your dealer are on the same page.

2. Check the Cable Node Wiring

Next, open the cable node using a Phillips head screwdriver. Examine the internal wiring to ensure all connections are secure and there are no loose wires or shorts. Using a multitester (voltmeter) can help you identify any open or short-circuited wires.

  • For CN01: Look for loose wiring in the orange terminal block where the INT2 wire is connected.
  • For CN08: Verify that the wiring is correctly terminated in the CNE board, or “puck,” located at the base of the node.
3. Use a StorMax or Blue Lite Monitor

If you have access to a StorMax or Blue Lite monitor, check the INT2 or moisture cable for functionality. Connect the handheld monitor at the cable’s head (the pig tail coming out of the cable). If you don’t get a meaningful reading, the cable may be faulty and will need to be replaced.

4. Check the Lead Wire

If the cable reads fine at the head but not inside the cable node, the lead wire may be faulty. In this case, replace the lead wire to restore functionality.

5. Test a Different Channel

If the previous steps didn’t resolve the issue, try moving the temp/moisture cable to a different position on the cable node connector terminal. Unmap and re-map the corresponding cable node on your OPI BLUE account, then check if the cable appears on the new channel.

  • If it does: Associate this “new” cable with the position of the “missing” cable.
  • If it doesn’t: Contact support for further assistance. A cable replacement may be necessary.

By following these troubleshooting steps, you can effectively diagnose and address issues with your moisture/temperature cable. If you encounter any difficulties or need further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to your local OPI dealer or our support team. We’re here to help you maintain the efficiency of your grain management systems!
